Diarrhea Planet

"Well, our featured attraction upon this eve will be the New York City debut of one of the hottest bands yet to pop out of the ever-expanding-in-awesomeness Nashville punk scene, Diarrhea Planet. These young guns run four electric guitars deep and specialize in the sort of life-affirming, fist-pumping jock jams that would be equally suited to scoring yr next kegger or yr next Iron Man Triathalon; call it 'Posi-Party-Punk' - I do. Or call it 'American Oi,' or 'Yeah Rock' - just don't call 'em on Tuesday, because it'll be too late and you will look (and feel) like a dumbass. RIYL: Japandroids, JEFF the Brotherhood, Misfits, Andrew WK."

Liquor Store

"Keeping with the 'scuzzy' and 'lotta guitars' theme is Liquor Store from Glen Rock, NJ. Hardcore TitusHeads (aka Andronikids) will recognize frontman Sarim Al-Rawi as our original drummer, but when he left the band to pursue a college degree, we knew it was only a matter of time before he burst back onto the scene like Zeus out of his own head, a thunderbolt for every hand. Liquor Store is his golden chariot, featuring survivors of Glen Rock scene kings Above All Hope and Motown rockers the Mahonies at the core of their constantly expanding/contracting lineup (expect at least two electric guitars – prepare for as many as five). They recently completed their debut full-length record under the watchful eye of producer Kevin McMahon (TA, Swans, Real Estate, the Walkmen) and are sure to grow in the hearts of scumbags and scoundrels across Long Island, Jersey, and beyond. RIYL: reading websites like Terminal Boredom or the Goner Records message board, genres whose names include the word 'stoner.'"

Battle Ave

"Finally, kicking off the festivities will be a promising young group out of the Catskills region calling themselves Battle Ave. Their twisting, turning tunes will drag you along a windy and wild road, from quiet, desperate singer-songwriter ruminations, to math-y workouts, to shimmering crescendos that will split the sky even as they split yr skull. They too have recently completed a record with that guy Kevin McMahon (Liquor Store), which promises to make 'post-pop-punk' the next 'swag.' RIYL: Frog Eyes, Explosions in the Sky, Cap'n Jazz, Say Anything."

== Like all VIBES MANAGEMENT events, this will be an amazing, all-night DANCE PARTY ==

Other Places will take you elsewhere in the mindworld of contemporary music -- a crash course in the psychogeography of current cosmic vibes. As always, our events are synergistically infused with the choicest all-night hypnagogic dance vibes.

Each O.P. showcase will feature live acts from a different region of the world, located outside of NYC. All of the bands in this edition of OTHER PLACES are from Midwest, America.

This installation will take place at Shea Stadium, one of Brooklyn's favorite DIY loft spaces. Located near the Grand St. L train, Shea features a great sound system and outdoor balcony.

☼ Caught between smoke and strobe. Where light folds into the space between time. ☼

Performance Artists Amy Khoshbin, Ithai Benjamin, and Michael Clemow use cross-platform media to create performances best described as hybrids, ranging from robotic puppets to interactive video to experimental hand-made instruments. The ...three performance program - Practice by Khoshbin, The Princes of Persuasion by Benjamin, and These Shackles Will Set You Free by Clemow - is presented for one night only, Saturday, May 7, 2011, from 9-11pm at the recording studio and all-ages showspace, Shea Stadium Brooklyn, in Williamsburg.

A DJ/VJ dance party will immediately follow with amazing DJ's cassettenova, Don Miller & Winslow Porter and rad VJ's Aux Armes & splaf7.

Tickets to OVERNOTOVER are $7 and available at the door. Details about the performances are below. Invite all of your friends, it will be an amazing time!

Practice is a multimedia, one-woman performance exploring family, memory and how we see ourselves through the eyes of our parents, even through adulthood. Amy Khoshbin unfolds her family’s story within an interactive video set where she plays the role of herself, as her father - a Baha’i Iranian immigrant, and as her mother - an Italian-American Baha’i convert. Practice was performed in 2011 at Zora Art Space and also The Stone as part of series curated by Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson.

The Princes Of Persuasion Are Planet Africa – Linda the Ballerina returns to New York after running away to Africa, where she befriended a Cameroon Zebra named Odhiambo, after beating him in a camouflage tournament. They became best friends and together developed what would later be known in African dance circles as the “Ballet Club” movement. Tonight she shares her story. Joined by Ithai Benjamin and special guest.

Michael Clemow continues his work with custom electronic instruments and digital synthesis software by further developing compositional methodologies and "performance situations" based on restraints. In These Shackles Will Set You Free, the score is written into the instrument as well as the performance situation and playing the piece is less about reading a score on paper than it is about exploring a possibility space. His experimental compositions have been performed at The Stone, Diapason, Issue Project Room, and other New York venues.
